AVS is a not-for-profit professional society that promotes communication
between academia, government laboratories, and industry for the purpose of
sharing research and development findings over a broad range of technologically
relevant topics. AVS provides for symposia, short courses, exhibitions,
journals, educational outreach, and networking opportunities at international,
national, and local levels. AVS encompasses ten technical divisions, two
technical groups, nineteen local-area chapters and 6,000 members worldwide. AVS
also serves more than 20,000 nonmembers annually who participate in user or
technical group programs, AVS-sponsored symposia, topical conferences, and
short courses. Other nonmember audiences include journal subscribers, online
visitors, and customers who purchase educational materials throughout the year.
AVS membership is comprised of manufacturing, production, research and design
engineers, scientists, professors, and practitioners, as well as corporate
executives and students worldwide.
