Applied Surface Technologies

The CO2
Snow Cleaning process removes micron and
submicron particulates and hydrocarbon-based
contamination. Carbon dioxide snow cleaning is
nondestructive, nonabrasive, residue-free, and
environmentally friendly - there is no chemical waste.
The cleaning process is based upon the expansion of
either liquid or gaseous carbon dioxide through an
orifice. This expansion leads to the nucleation of small
dry ice particles and a high velocity gas carrier
stream. Upon impact with a dirty surface, the dry ice
media removes particles by momentum transfer, even
micron and submicron particulates, and hydrocarbons via
a transient solvent or a freeze fracture mechanism. The
high-velocity gas blows the contaminants away.

final cleaning, and for numerous critical and
non-critical cleaning applications in the semiconductor,
disk drive, research, vacuum technologies, surface

Edge welded bellows are very durable and offer a
function unobtainable with any other technology known
today. Bellows can flex considerably while maintaining
true all-metal, hermetic sealing. The secret of a welded
bellows flexibility is its construction of many very
thin, washer-leaflets microwelded together in series to
create an accordion-like tube. Thus the general envelope
shape of edge welded bellows is a hollow round cylinder
where the axis of the cylinder is the direction of most
flex travel (axial stroke). However, due to its extreme
flexibility a bellows can also flex in an angular way
(bending) as well as allowing for parallel end-face to
end-face shift (lateral motion).
For applications that require high quality,
state-of-the-art Micro Fusion Joined edge welded bellows
are more cost effective and functional than either
Electron Beam or Laser Welded.
