AVS is a nonprofit organization that promotes communication, education,
networking, recommended practices, research, and the dissemination of
knowledge on an international scale, in the application of vacuum and
other controlled environments to understand and develop interfaces,
new materials, processes, and devices through the interaction of
science and technology.

| Distinguished Lecturers |
|
In its 50+ years, the Society membership has accumulated a tremendous amount of
knowledge and expertise in the established and emerging topical areas of interest to
AVS. Among the Society's members are individuals who are established leaders in their
field and who have made outstanding contributions in science and technology. Many are
captivating speakers with the ability to convey to audiences the excitement of our
science. These people are a valuable resource for the Society in the endeavor to promote
communication, dissemination of knowledge, and education outreach. In order to allow
the community to tap into this resource, the AVS Board of Directors established a
special committee in 1998 and tasked it with identifying such individuals and
organizing an AVS Distinguished Lecturer Series (DLS) with the primary goal to
serve the scientific and educational needs of the AVS Chapters. The speakers may
also serve as a source for keynote speakers at forums of other professional societies,
universities, industry, and government on topics of interest to AVS.
You are invited to review our Distinguished Lecturer Series. We encourage you to
invite our Distinguished Lecturers to your future Chapter and Division meetings. Please
bear in mind that these are busy people and we recommend that you plan your lecture well
in advance. Please contact Yvonne Towse, AVS Administrative Director, and she will coordinate
the arrangements.
We also encourage you to nominate new Distinguished Lecturers in order to acknowledge
outstanding lecturers and to more fully cover the areas of interest of the AVS.
